Stephen John Marshall was born in Seattle on May 19, 1959 and left this world for his eternal home on March 25, 2025. Born to John and Pat Marshall, he is survived by his wife, Sue Marshall; children, Luke Marshall and Jenny Marshall; siblings, Laurel Fullington, David Marshall and Peter Marshall and their families; and grandchildren, Olivia, Isabelle and Charlotte.
Steve told his family at age 12, 'I believe God is calling me to be a police officer.' He served in Kirkland and King County, and after a 36-year career, he retired as the undersheriff in Wahkiakum County.
Steve "served and protected" in numerous roles, including conducting search and rescue operations on Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish, keeping peace on Sound Transit, searching for and rescuing lost hikers, serving as a peer counselor, leading an Explorers troop to mentor young people, and enforcing traffic as a motorcycle officer.
Steve's faith in God, sense of humor, and love of nature stood out to those who knew him. He loved taking friends and family fishing, and enjoyed kayaking, hiking, wandering in the woods, and foraging for mushrooms with friends and his dog. He hosted a men's group at home for breakfast and conversations about Christ. Steve never wavered in his belief that this life is temporary and that his eternal home would be with God. Always willing to share his faith, Steve's deepest joy came from his relationship with his Savior, Jesus Christ.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Robert Gray Baptist Church in Longview, Washington. A reception will follow the service. All are welcome.
