Wahkiakum County Sheriff's Department accepts 2025 Charity Walk Challenge

The volunteers at the Wahkiakum Autism Awareness charity are bursting with excitement as this year's walk promises to offer a unique and fun challenge, a one-mile race in full gear between local volunteer firefighters and sheriff deputies. Initiated by volunteer firefighter and EMT driver Paul Lawrence, the challenge will feature brave deputies Jermey Jordan and Lucas Getman from the Wahkiakum Sheriff's department, as well as Sheriff John Mason himself. These gentlemen have stepped forward to compete in the name of a great cause.

The challenge is scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at the Wahkiakum High School track. Competitors and their families are invited to show their support while indulging in the delicious treats available at the charity bake sale. Talented bakers from around the county will be showing off their skills, including members of the Cathlamet Women's Club and the fire department auxiliary.

Local businesses have been extremely generous providing donations for the charity's first ever silent auction. So far, volunteer Beth Jordan has acquired items from Cathlamet Pharmacy, Patty Cakes, JJ's Pizza & Mohr, the Sugar Pearl Bakery, Gragg's General Store, and Backman Fish.

The iconic navy blue autism Mule T-shirts and sweatshirts are also available but must be ordered in advance. All proceeds will be donated to the Wahkiakum School District to provide educational tools for children with autism and special needs.

This year's walk is all about bringing the community together, showcasing how strong we are when we are united and working towards a better future for all of our children. If you'd like to get involved in this year's walk or find out more information about the items available for purchase, visit the Wahkiakum Autism Awareness FB page or email walkforautismwah@gmail.com.
