STILL SOGGY. As I write this column, a little later than usual, it’s another soggy day in Skamokawa. I hear that Tuesday is supposed to be nice, though, so I’m holding out hope for at least one decent day as the rest of the week looks pretty doggone-wet to me. Once again, keep the boots and umbrellas handy. If you live in a low-lying area and all this rain hits us, be prepared for possible flooding. However, we’ll keep our fingers crossed that it doesn’t materialize!

FLEA MARKET/DONATIONS. Several people have asked when they can bring in items (good, clean, reusable) to the county fairgrounds here in Skamokawa to donate, so I wanted to mention that date this week. The Flea Market/T-building sale takes place on the second Saturday of each month from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. In case you’re new here, the fairgrounds are located just off East Valley Road, which you take off SR 4, right by the historic Central School/Redmen Hall building on the corner across from the Skamokawa Resort/General Store/Post office. You make that right and take the next left and go by our historic saloon, “The O”, and the fairgrounds are right there next to another historic building, the Skamokawa Grange Hall You truly cannot miss it! Remember, please do not bring any “junk”, if it’s broken or severely damaged, it’s really not sellable and will only cost the fair money to dispose of. However, all other items are welcomed, and folks who are just starting out and need some things for a great, low price would be more than thrilled to pick up some household goods they can afford.
OPEN MIC AT SKAMOKAWA GRANGE HALL. Speaking of the Skamokawa Grange Hall, there is going to be a March open mic/live music event taking place this Sunday, March 30. Come on down and show off what you can do, and if you just want to listen to others, that’s great too, the more the merrier. There will be three song sets, so everyone gets to play their instrument, and then there will be a jam session... always great fun! Please arrive by 2:45 p.m. to sign in and then all the Open Mic fun will begin at 3 p.m. Wahkiakum VIBES puts on this event, and you can check them out on Facebook, or if you want to contact their leader and find out more, call Jerry Ledtke at 360-795-3434. While there is no charge to take part in this event or to come and watch it, your donations to the Skamokawa Grange #425 would be deeply appreciated.
FOS SPRING TEA. Yes, the days are flying by, and this month is about gone. Soon, it will be time for the Third Annual Spring Tea at the River Life Interpretive Center, located on the second floor of the historic Schoolhouse/Redmen Hall. Please make your reservations for Saturday, May 3, as seating is limited and they need to know how many will be coming. The Spring Tea will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. and is $30 per person. So, talk to your gal pals and plan to come and enjoy some teatime together. If possible, put on that fancy tea hat as well. It’s fun! There will also be a raffle fundraiser so maybe bring a few extra bucks with you too. Call: 360-795-3007 ASAP
BED THEME NEEDED. Just a reminder that the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is looking for a theme for Bald Eagle Days, so get your thinking caps on and submit that idea to them soon, as April 4 is their cutoff date. The chosen theme will be announced on April 11, and that will give folks some time to get their ideas put together for their floats or booths. You can call them with your theme at 360-795-9996 or you can stop by their office at 102 Main Street in Cathlamet.
SHORT. Due to some technical difficulties and other health and time constraints, this will be a short column this week. However, here’s hoping you have a fun April Fool’s Day next Tuesday!
