Wahkiakum FFA hosts district CDE contest

ustling with activity as it hosted the District FFA Career Development Event (CDE) contest. With 10 FFA chapters and 75 students in attendance, the event showcased the talent and dedication of young agricultural leaders from across the region.

The competition featured multiple CDE categories, including Agricultural Issues, Co-op, Rituals, Greenhand, Parliamentary Procedure, Agricultural Communications, and Extemporaneous Speaking. Students competed in teams and as individuals, demonstrating their knowledge and skills in various aspects of agricultural leadership and communication.

Wahkiakum FFA performed exceptionally well, with both Greenhand teams earning top honors. The team of Ryen, Payton, Marlee, and Jamey secured third place, while the team of Ella, Clara, and Maye claimed second place. Both teams advanced to the next level of competition due to their strong performances.

In the Extemporaneous Speaking category, Jamey Heston stood out by making it to the finals and securing a commendable fifth-place finish. The competition was intense, but Wahkiakum students showcased their dedication and preparation throughout the event.

One of the most notable aspects of the day was the efficiency and collaboration of all participants. The willingness of Wahkiakum FFA chapter members to volunteer and help the contest run smoothly played a crucial role in the event’s success. Their hard work and dedication were evident as they assisted in organizing and ensuring the event proceeded without a hitch.

Beyond the contest, Wahkiakum FFA remains active with numerous projects and events. Members are currently focused on pruning trees as part of their agricultural activities. Additionally, the chapter has been busy with trap shooting, which began last month. The team has a practice session on Saturday morning, followed by a competition at the Cowlitz Gun Club on Sunday.

Looking ahead, Wahkiakum FFA is gearing up for the second District FFA CDE competition day, scheduled for March 28th. With the momentum from their recent success, the chapter is eager to continue demonstrating its skills and commitment to agricultural education.

Wahkiakum FFA’s dedication to excellence and teamwork was on full display at the District CDE contest, and the future looks bright for these young agricultural leaders. Congratulations to our local FFA shining stars and Mr. Hurley’s hard-working Wahkikaum FFA Chapter.
