WAA announces 2025 charity walk

As April approaches, the volunteers at the Wahkiakum Autism Awareness charity are getting organized for their third one-mile walk fundraiser at the Wahkiakum High School track. Scheduled for Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m., this family friendly event's sole purpose is to raise awareness and generate funds for children with autism and special needs within the Wahkiakum School District.

Established in 2019, this local charity works together with special education teachers, therapists and students to purchase equipment and resources with the specific purpose to enhance their educational experience. To date, the charity has purchased and donated a soothing bubble tower, a sensory pathway, interactive floor gel tiles, twelve noise-cancelling Bluetooth wireless headphones and a large bolster swing which is used for physical therapy as well as a student reward.

This year, the volunteers are looking for other groups within the community to become involved and plan to host a community bake sale during the walk. They’ll also be selling the jigsaw autism version of the school mule mascot in stickers, pins, patches and key chains to help raise awareness and generate funds. T-shirts and sweatshirts are also available but must be ordered in advance. All proceeds will be donated to the Wahkiakum School District.

If you’d like to get involved in this year’s walk or find out more information about the items available for purchase, visit the Wahkiakum Autism Awareness FB page or email walkforautismwah@gmail.com.
