Protect the Columbia River

To The Eagle,

Our beautiful beloved Columbia River is dying.While politicians push mythical "green energy" projects producing millions of gallons of highly hazardous and toxic chemicals like so-called bio-fuels proposed by not N-X-T. Bureaucrats at Oregon Dept. of Environmental Quality, Oregon Dept. of Fish and Wildlife have approved permits against protests and testimonies of hundreds of residents from Oregon and Washington.

Why are we the people allowing a handful of idiots sitting on computers in offices looking at computer screens of charts of unproven theories decide the fate of our river? DEQ, ODFW, National Marine Fisheries have pretended to "save species" or "protect" our river for 40 years while our salmon, sturgeon, smelt are chopped up in ship propellers. Smolts are smashed onto Mayger Beach and suffocated from ship wakes. Dead river clams and fish lie amongst oily, green and blue plastic chips and human excrement at Mayger.

At 75 years old, I have watched our forests and creeks become poisoned by herbicides and pesticides "approved" by EPA, another agency alleging to "protect" the bald eagle, great blue heron, snowy egret, white-tail deer, roosevelt elk, great white sturgeon and human babies. It is time for the common sense of the people who fish and live on the river. Write and call your representatives. Tell your truths. Stop the insanity now. Thank you.
