Nina Jean (Haataja) Berg, beloved sister, cousin, aunt and friend, passed away on Feb. 4, 2025, at the age of 70 in Bellingham, Wash. Nina was born April 24, 1954 in Long Beach, Wash. to Harold and Kathleen (Harrison) Haataja. Nina was the youngest member of the family and grew up in Rosburg. She attended Grays River Valley Elementary School and graduated from Naselle High School.
Nina worked many years in the food industry, first as a waitress and later as a cook at the Naselle Youth Camp in Naselle, Wash.
In January of 1977, Nina married Gary Napier in Seattle, and they remained married until 1993. In December of 1996, Nina married Daniel Berg in a snow storm in Bellingham. Nina and Daniel had many happy years traveling to Mexico and around the United States. In 2005, they moved to Rosburg and set up a beautiful home at the family farm on the Barr Road. Daniel passed away from cancer in 2010, and Nina continued to live in Rosburg and work at the Naselle Youth Camp until her health declined.
Nina is survived by her sister, Karen Slodysko (William Slodysko); her brother, Lyle Haataja (Loanne Haataja); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Nina was a kind, gentle person. She loved animals, especially cats. Family was especially important to her. She always appreciated everything that we did to help her in her declining years. A memorial service will be held in the spring in Rosburg.
