The Wahkiakum County Commissioners met on Tuesday, Jan. 21, for their regularly scheduled meeting. The commissioners approved the request to allot $25, 201 for a 50 percent match grant with the Washington State Military Department. The grant covers the continued support of the Department of Emergency Management program and its supporting staff. Wahkiakum Emergency Management Coordinator Austin Smith presented the Commissioners with a request for approval on the State Homeland Security Program Grant Agreements. This $55,000 grant has no match requirement and provides funding for the Wahkiakum DEM program through 2027.
The Wahkiakum VFW representative Bill Tawater presented awards to two members of the Wahkiakum Sheriff’s Office; Deputy Lucas Getman was presented with the VFW Public Servant Award Citation. Sheriff Mason said, “In recognition of his continued efforts in Search and Rescue and Emergency Response. Deputy Getman has consistently shown steadfast dedication to his duties as a Search and Rescue coordinator, leader, and responder…” Next, the Tawater presented Eric Cothren with the VFW Public Servant Award “For excellence in the performance of job duties and unwavering reliability and dedication to the profession of 911 dispatches. Eric’s 24-year career with the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office exemplifies professionalism, passion, and unrelenting commitment to public safety.”
