Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
2024 was a whirlwind year for Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group (WAAG). we are proud to share some highlights of a remarkable year. Thanks to the support of our donors, volunteers, and community partners, WAAG was able to continue making a difference in our community. Last year, WAAG received 240 calls for help from community members, averaging 20 requests per month. These requests highlight the critical need for animal welfare support in our area. We averaged one call per month from the Sheriff’s Office, bridging the gap between our county’s department and animal services.
In partnership with the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon (FCCO), we ensured that 82 outdoor cats were spayed or neutered, addressing the overpopulation of feral, barn, and community cats. Thanks to our donors’ generosity, WAAG provided over $4,630 in financial aid to our community for spay/neuter services and medical care. WAAG donated 416 cans and 1,964 pounds of pet food to local food pantries.
WAAG volunteers worked an impressive 185 hours each month, dedicating their time to everything from providing animal care to community outreach and education. This number does not include the amount of time volunteers spent fostering animals in our care. We found loving families for 38 animals abandoned or surrendered into our care. At present, WAAG volunteers are caring for four adoptable dogs. Additionally, we are assisting local families in rehoming five animals: 3 dogs and two kittens.
WAAG is excited to announce that 2025 will bring new programs designed to further our mission and serve our community in even greater ways. We are also welcoming new members to our board who will bring fresh perspectives and ideas to our work. We are so grateful for this wonderful community that continues to support animals in need and their families. To our donors, volunteers, and community partners - thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Your generosity, time, and dedication make WAAG possible and create a brighter future for the community we serve. Together, we are building a compassionate and caring community for all.
