Local seniors are invited to Senior Friendship Group

The Senior Friendship Group started as a Facebook Page to allow Wahkiakum seniors to make connections and new friends. Some seniors have mobility issues and have difficulty getting out and about, and this group gave them an online place to meet, chat, answer daily questions, and share photos. Soon, Pastor Jeff at the Lutheran Church offered the downstairs as a place for the group members to fellowship in person. There is now a monthly potluck, and various sub-groups focus on specific interests and hold weekly meetings. If you aren’t interested in a group’s activities that week, you can still come to the potluck and hang out, work on crafts, and visit with new friends.

There is no cost to join the Senior Friendship Group; members must reside in Wahkiakum County and be 55+ or retired. To help with the costs of paper plates, paper towels, garbage bags, and other disposable items, cash donations are encouraged. The next monthly potluck will feature soups and stews at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 22. A trivia game will follow. All seniors are welcome whether they bring a dish or not.

The Senior Friendship Group meets each Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 549 State Route 409, Puget Island.
