The Clatskanie varsity girls basketball team won their fifth straight game Tuesday night by nearly doubling up on Portland Christian at home 61-32. Sophomore Lacey Willis led the scoring with 23 points, followed by fellow sophomore Olivia George, who had 17 to go along with her four rebounds and team-leading three steals. Junior Joey Sizemore, though being outscored by George and Willis, led the team in rebounds with eight, blocks with six, and assists with 13. Sophomore Payton Taylor and junior Bethany Hagen had four points each, and junior Mya Jensen and sophomore Peyton Krueger added two points each in the win.
"Tonight's game was a great way to start league play," said Coach Dawn Warren. "The girls continue to improve, but we still have a lot of improvements to make to reach our full potential. We are very proud of how hard the girls played and what a well-rounded game it was with everybody contributing both offensively and defensively."
The Tigers (7-3) travel to Vermonia Friday, Jan. 10 to face the Loggers and then Cloverdale Monday, Jan. 13 to take on the Nestucca Bobcats. The girls will return to Clatskanie Wednesday, Jan. 15 to take on Aloha's Faith Bible Christian at 6 p.m.
