WET AND NASTY. You know it will be a pretty soggy week when you look at your weather app and it shows nothing but raindrops. At the beginning of this week, we were supposed to have a couple of dry days and maybe even a dry Thursday, with more rain on Friday. However, as of right now, the weekend is looking dry, albeit colder, but we all know this could change on a dime. I’m hoping for some dryness for sure minus any freezing temperatures... picky me. I do hope you’ll remember that no matter the weather, it’s best to be prepared for anything around here and when you are driving out and about, please flip those headlights on as way too many of you are still driving around in the dark, in rainy conditions at either barely daylight or already dusk, and man, you have no idea just how difficult it is to see you. So please do yourself, and the rest of us, a big favor and make your presence known with your lights on!

NICE BIRTHDAY. I got to enjoy a birthday celebration with my only surviving brother, Frank Pedersen recently as he came down this way with his wife, Carolyn, and his daughter, Cindi, who showed up at The Spar on his eighty-sixth birthday. It was a first-time visit for Cindi, and she could only imagine what it looked like when her dad and I used to hang out at that place way back when. They all enjoyed their food; hubby Bill treated us all and Brother Dear enjoyed the gift. As always, we old folks gabbed about the “good old days.” As the daylight hours were waning, it was time to end the tall tales of things that happened long ago and wrap up our gab session.
GREAT TIME UP NORTH. I wasn’t gone long but I did manage to get up to Seattle this last week where my only granddaughter, Tessa Sechler, was the center of attention at her wedding shower up in Mountlake Terrace, at the home of her brother and sister-in-law, Blake and Michaela Sechler. To say it was a wonderful time would be an understatement, as that crew knows how to throw a party! We, ladies, got all dolled up while Blake and Luke Sechler donned suits and bowties. Then, they not only cooked and served the ladies, but they baked and made us mocktails. They are a couple of dashing young men (if I do say so myself) who can cook excellent food, too! Well, they scored a lot of points with all the ladies in attendance. Of course, Michaela was a wizard with all the decorations and the wonderful game she played was insightful and fun. Next came the opening of all the gifts and Tessa was thoroughly surprised and completely thrilled with all the goodies her family and friends gave to her. Her Mom, Katie, gave her a pyramid of boxes, which were in the style of a wedding tradition “something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new.” It was super special of course, as it contained items for the upcoming nuptials from her grandma, Nollan, as well as her Mom. Tessa and her significant other, Bobby Graham will be tying the knot towards the end of March so we are all looking forward to that, as well as hoping it doesn’t snow. As my Grandma Elsie would have said, “And a good time was had by all!”
TERRIFIC NEWS. Now, this was the first time that I’d gotten to see the new home of the Blake Sechler’s, so that was a special treat for me, and it was made even more special by the fact that the guest bedroom was going to be turned into a nursery, as the couple is expecting their first child! Everyone is so happy for them and the room will soon be bursting in pink, as they are going to be having a baby girl around the beginning of summer. This new baby will make Pete and Katie Sechler grandparents for the first time, which they are ecstatic about, and it will mean I will have my first great-granddaughter in addition to a great-grandson. Needless to say, having a new baby in the family is going to be a joyous occasion and we can hardly wait!
GOOD TIME? I do hope the first week of January was a good one for you and this second one is too. We are being reminded that we have a few months of winter with all this soggy weather on this first weekend of the new year. Here’s to everyone being vigilant and preparing for whatever is coming our way next!
