Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

December 9 1:26 a.m. Cathlamet Ambulance responded to an elderly person who fell. 11:53 a.m. A caller on Crossdike Rd reported a pile of concrete, rock, and plastic bags dumped next to the slough. A Cathlamet resident reported a 1911 style pistol alongside the road on SR 4 and River Ridge Rd. Deputies discovered the item was an airsoft gun and not a firearm. 5:12 p.m. Grays River Ambulance responded to an elderly person with chest pain.

December 10 6:22 a.m. An elderly Cathlamet resident requested transportation to the hospital 2:42 p.m. A possible illegal burn was reported in Eden Valley. The Grays River fire department responded and found that it was not in danger of spreading. 7:16 p.m. A welfare check was requested on an Elochoman Valley resident known to have heart problems.

December 11 7:41 a.m. An erratic driver was reported west of County Line Park. The Washington State Patrol was notified. 9:45 a.m. A caller reported a break-in at their property east of Cathlamet. 12:02 p.m. A caller on SR4 called dispatch to say they were following a vehicle that had hit their car. 3:17 p.m. A Puget Island caller reported an injured deer. 4:54 p.m. Several erratic drivers were reported driving at a high rate of speed on SR4. 5:29 p.m. A deceased dog was reported on SR4 just west of Cathlamet. 9:59 The door to a Cathlamet business was reported open. Deputies secured the door and attempted to contact the owner but were unsuccessful.

December 12 10:22 a.m. A caller reported that a dead animal had been in their neighbors field for four days. Deputies contacted the owner who was out of town. 2:16 p.m. A Cathlamet caller reported that a vehicle was blocking their driveway. 2:35 A caller reported that a vehicle was speeding in the passing lane west of County Line Park. 4:00 p.m. A Puget Island homeowner reported that someone had tried to pry open the door of their shop. 4:07 p.m. A welfare check was requested on an elderly Cathlamet resident. Paramedics checked in on the person who was fine. 4:33 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies and the Grays River ambulance responded to a Naselle resident who had passed out. 8:01 p.m. A resident west of Cathlamet reported a family member having a seizure. Cathlamet emergency services responded. 8:05 p.m. A travel trailer caught fire and exploded north of Cathlamet. The Cathlamet fire department responded. The homeowner said that the trailer was unoccupied.

December 13 10:48 a.m. A suspicious vehicle was reported driving on Puget Island. The caller thought that the person might be casing homes to potentially commit a crime. The caller did not know if the vehicle was in the area but was concerned that they might return. Deputies drove around the island but did not see the vehicle. 11:57 a.m. Water was reported over the road at the intersection of SR4 and East Deep River Rd.

December 14 1:29 a.m. An elderly Cathlamet resident with dementia was reported missing. 4:07 a.m. Large logs were reported in the eastbound lane of SR4 in the S curves west of the county line. The Washington State Patrol was advised. 10:19 a.m. A homeowner west of Cathlamet said that they were notified that people were loading property from their house into a truck while they were away. Deputies stopped the vehicles described and took two people into custody. 11:20 a.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a possible stroke victim. 4:05 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported items stolen from their garage.

December 15 A caller reported people hanging out at the Greenwood Cemetery. Deputies at the scene advised that the people were sitting on a public bench and did not observe any criminal activity. 12:58 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly east county resident who had fallen.
