Hoopla on the hardwood has tipped off this December, and the boys and girls teams from Wahkiakum are taking to the court to start the season. The early goings have brought early victories for the Mules.
Wahkiakum Basketball
The games are coming thick and fast, and as of Dec. 10, the boys and girls teams for Wahkiakum High School are off to a good start in their non-league games.
On the boys side, the Mules are off to a kicking 2-1 start at the time of press. Though the result of the Dec. 12 conference game against Three Rivers Christian School is not known at the time of writing, the Mules have to be happy with the way they've started, snatching two wins against Taholah and Ilwaco. The one defeat Wahkiakum's boys varsity team suffered came at the hands of Willapa Valley High School 51-54. For a team that went 18-8 last season, there is plenty to build off of as they go into their first conference game.
The girl's team at Wahkiakum is 1-1 at the time of press. After a tough 26-40 loss in the first game of the season away from home, the Mules stamped their redemption with a 47-35 win against Winlock in their home opener on Dec. 6.
Getting that first win will be a good building block for a Mules team that only won one game during the 2023-2024 season. The girls will next take the court at home against Ilwaco on Dec. 11.
