The Cathlamet Town Council held a regular meeting on Monday, Nov. 4. During a public hearing on the 2025 preliminary budget, one citizen questioned the timing and allocation of proceeds from a timber harvest, which is expected to generate $170,000 to support the cumulative reserve fund. Another citizen raised concerns about annexation, which Mayor Olson confirmed cannot occur without property owner consent. The citizen also urged the council to prioritize town residents over tourists. Questions were also asked about 2025 water and sewer rate increases, viewing plans for the proposed Waterfront Park, and accessing agenda packets. The mayor directed citizens to the town website and invited them to contact town hall for further assistance.
In the budget workshop, Council person Hendrickson proposed using tourism funds to improve restroom signage in Cathlamet, while Councilperson Waller suggested contributing to the ferry’s 100th anniversary celebration. Waller also proposed that the town hire a financial liaison or a CPA to review financials biannually, which Clerk/Treasurer Clark supported. Town Attorney Fred Johnson explained the property tax levy process, and the council approved Resolution 454-24 to raise the 2025 property tax by 1%, totaling approximately $899.22. The meeting concluded with an executive session under RCW 42.30.110. The mayor announced that the next public hearing on the 2025 budget will be held on Nov. 18 at 6 p.m., with initial voting scheduled for Dec. 2 and final adoption on Dec. 16.
