Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

October 7 6:04 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island address where a person was having abdominal issues. 9:41 a.m. Emergency services transported a Cathlamet resident who was advised by their doctor to go to the hospital. 1:57 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet resident with breathing problems. 2:28 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Puget Island resident who had possibly cut their finger off with a log splitter.

October 8 9:11 a.m.Emergency services responded to an Elochoman Valley homeowner who had fallen. 11:31 a.m. An erratic driver was reported near the county line. The Washington State Patrol was notified. 1:35 p.m. A Puget Island driver reported being hit by a deer. The caller said that the deer got up and ran away. 6:37 p.m. A sheriff’s deputy observed a vehicle speeding and making turns without signaling. The suspect was pursued and observed going over 90 miles per hour eastbound. The vehicle crashed at Coal Creek, and the Washington State Patrol took one individual into custody.

October 9 6:17 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance assisted a Skamokawa person with breathing problems. The patient was transported to the hospital in Longview. 11:42 a.m. A caller traveling SR4 reported a vehicle high centered in a driveway and partially blocking the highway. 2:19 p.m. The Department of Ecology notified the sheriff's office that they would be electro fishing near the marina that evening. 4:13 p.m. A homeowner east of Cathlamet called to report that their house had been broken into. The caller said that they did not know when this occurred. 5:29 p.m. A Cathlamet caller reported being chased by their neighbor’s dog.

October 10 7:11 a.m. A caller reported finding a duffle bag with medications inside. Deputies called the owner who said that they would come down to the courthouse and pick up the bag. 8:24 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly Cathlamet resident who had fallen. 9:38 a.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a toxic smelling substance in the area. The caller asked that deputies see if anyone was burning illegal material. Deputies contacted the fire permit holder who said that they would put the fire out. No law enforcement action was taken. 10:36 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to an elderly Rosburg resident who had fallen. 10:37 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet resident who had fallen after experiencing dizzy spells. 11:43 a.m. Grays River emergency assisted a Naselle resident who was experiencing hip and mobility issue. 12:31 p.m. A Deep River resident reported getting harassing phone calls from an unknown person. 2:40 p.m. A Skamokawa caller reported hearing gunshots on West Valley Road. 5:35 p.m. A Cathlamet caller contacted the Sheriff’s Department to see if there were any hit and run accidents recently. The caller, who cares for an elderly family member noticed damage on the side of their vehicle. 8:00 p.m. The Skamokawa ambulance responded to a person with a history of heart problems having chest pains. The person declined transportation to the hospital. 9:47 p.m. A caller in Grays River reported hunters shinning lights around.

October 11 10:38 a.m. A wallet was found on Columbia Street in Cathlamet. A family member was contacted to pick up the wallet. 11:24 a.m. A Puget Island caller reported that a political sign in their yard had been damaged. This was the second time that signs had been damaged. 11:43 a.m. A Cathlamet caller requested assistance after locking their keys in their car. 3:47 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to an elderly person who had fallen and received a head injury.

October 13 12:10 p.m. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded to a brush fire behind the Cathlamet Market. 6:16 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a Cathlamet resident who had fallen and could not get up. 7:40 p.m. More than one Puget Island resident reported hearing gunshots and fireworks at the public boat ramp. Deputies spoke with people at the boat ramp and determined that everything was safe. 10:11 p.m. A Rosburg homeowner reported that a person was knocking on their windows. Deputies spoke with a person matching the homeowners description.
