Naselle and Wahkiakum sports round-up

Another week in the books in Washington state high school sports, and volleyball and football seasons at Naselle High School and Wahkiakum High School have continued to roll along.

Here's what you may have missed last week in the world of Wahkiakum and Naselle sports.

Naselle football

Naselle continued its positive momentum this season with a 72-0 win over Chief Leschi in a conference game on Oct. 12. The victory marked the Comets' fifth league win in a row and sixth overall, en route to a perfect 6-0 start.

Naselle remains atop the Coastal 1B Football SWW 8-man football rankings. They will next take the field against the sixth-best team in the Coastal 1B league, Taholah, on Oct. 18.

Wahkiakum football

The Mules are on a roll following their slow start to the season. Wahkiakum has now won three games in a row, with their most recent W coming against North Beach. For the third game in a row, the Mules scored more than 50 points, and they came away with the win against North Beach 52-12.

Wahkiakum is now tied on record for second in the Coastal 1B league, with a record of 4-2, drawing level with Oakville and Ocosta, both of whom Wahkiakum has already beaten this year. The Mules will next take the field against Chief Leschi on Oct. 18.

Naselle volleyball

Prior to Tuesdays game, Naselle had won one game and lost a game, bringing their overall record to 6-5 and their league record to 5-4. The win came against Wishkah Valley by a 3-0 scoreline. The Comets did lose their next game against Willapa Valley on Oct. 10, by a narrow 3-2 margin.

The loss against Willapa Valley is tough for the Comets' playoff hopes, as they now have two fewer wins and two more losses than the two teams (Taholah and Willapa Valley) tied for second in the league. They have five remaining games to make up the ground.

Wahkiakum volleyball

The Mules have continued their success on the court, winning back-to-back games last week. One win came against Three Rivers Christian on Oct. 8, winning 3-0. The second win came against Oakville, also by three sets to zero. The Mules now have an overall record of 8-3, and a 6-2 record in league play.

Wahkiakum is currently ranked second in the Columbia Valley-South conference, and will next get back on the court on Oct. 15 against the Washington School for the Deaf, the result of that game is not available at time of press.
