Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:
September 16 8:41 a.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a person with abdominal pain on the sidewalk outside the health clinic in Cathlamet. 11:15 a.m. A caller reported that the stop sign, and pole were missing at the intersection of Ingalls Rd. and Middle Valley Rd. While responding to the incident deputies noticed the stop sign at East Valley Rd. and Middle Valley Rd, was also missing. Wahkiakum Public Works was notified.
September 17 8:33 a.m. A caller reported a person dumpster diving on Puget Island. 10:35 a.m. Deputies assisted a motorist locked out of their car on Main Street in Cathlamet. 11:15 a.m. A debit card was found in Cathlamet and returned to its owner. 12:06 p.m. A caller reported a person in Cathlamet having a mental health crisis. Deputies spoke to the person and felt that they did not pose a threat to others and were not breaking any laws. 12:32 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported difficulty breathing and shortness of breath. The person said that a family member recently had COVID-19, they declined transportation to the hospital. 1:06 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported being the victim of a financial scam. The caller had been contacted by someone who claimed to represent Paypal. 1:40 p.m. The Grays River ambulance and Adult Protective Services responded to an elderly Westend resident who was going in and out of consciousness. 2:13 p.m. A Puget Island homeowner reported fishing tackle and life vests stolen out of their boat. 2:20 p.m. A person checking on their friend’s home while they were away accidentally set off their alarm system. 2:29 p.m. A Westend resident reported seeing a person they recognized siphoning gas from heavy equipment on security camera. 4:19 p.m. A motorist reported a large branch across the roadway near the Grays River Bridge.
September 18 5:51 a.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to an elderly Cathlamet resident who had fallen. The person declined transportation to the hospital. 9:39 a.m. A Puget Island caller reported speaking with a person experiencing a mental health crisis. The person told deputies that they did not want to speak to officers. 7:46 p.m. A possible case of animal abuse was alleged in Skamokawa. 8:38 p.m. A Puget Island caller reported hearing a beeping noise from their neighbor’s house. Deputies responded and found that their neighbor had left their keys in their car.
September 19 8:18 a.m. A dead deer with bullet wounds was found by a Westend resident. The situation was referred to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife as a possible poaching incident. 9:11 a.m. A welfare check was requested on a Skamokawa resident. 11:04 a.m. Sheriff’s deputies assisted campers at Vista Park who were locked out of their vehicle. 5:38 p.m. A person reported people camping on the wildlife refuge. 5:46 p.m. A caller reported a person laying on the side of the road looking at their phone on Puget Island. The caller was worried that the person was so close to the road that they could be hit. 7:30 p.m. A Puget Island caller reported hitting a deer and pulling it to the side of the road. 7:44 p.m. A Westend homeowner reported a helicopter hovering over their house for eight to nine minutes.
September 21 5:27 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a person who was experiencing complications from a stroke. 10:32 p.m. An argument between roommates escalated into threats of violence on Puget Island. Deputies responded and a standoff between one of the people and the police began. The Lower Columbia SWAT team responded and took one person into custody.
September 22 5:00 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a person having a seizure. 8:45 p.m. A homeowner west of Cathlamet reported fuel stolen from their vehicles.
