Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

September 2 6:18 p.m. A group of people were reported camping by the no camping sign near the end of Steamboat Slough Road in the wildlife refuge. Deputies gave the campers a warning.

September 3 12:19 p.m. Two cows were reported on SR4 near Millers Road. Deputies worked to keep the cattle out of traffic. The cattle were returned to their pasture and the owners were advised to provide their contact information for the cattle list. 4:05 p.m. A fisherman near the Elochoman Slough marina reported a fisherman in another boat had threatened to ram their boat. After the caller returned to the marina they declined to pursue further legal action. 4:23 p.m. An erratic driver was reported west of Cathlamet. The Washington State Patrol was notified. 4:48 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported hearing a gun shot and that the shot hit their deck. Deputies responded and determined that a bird had dropped debris on the caller’s awning. No shots were fired. 6:04 p.m. A vehicle was reported speeding on Columbia Street in Cathlamet.

September 4 12:33 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the marina where a person had experienced a possible seizure.

September 5 2:23 a.m. A caller reported a vehicle with its lights on parked on Brooks Slough Road. 10:27 a.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a Puget Island resident with complications from diabetes. 1:23 p.m. A caller reported an erratic driver on SR4 in Cathlamet. 2:21 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to an elderly Westend resident who had fallen.

September 6 1:11 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a relative in Cathlamet. 2:35 p.m. A caller in Cathlamet reported an erratic driver who was driving on the wrong side of the road, not stopping at stop signs and not signaling. Deputies photographed a vehicle matching the callers description but the caller said it was not the correct vehicle. 4:52 p.m. A caller reported receiving a call from a person who said that they had failed to report for jury duty and that they needed to pay $1500 to avoid trouble. Deputies told the subject that no law enforcement entities would operate in this manner. Since no information or money had been lost, and no contact information was available, no law enforcement action would be taken.

September 7 2:42 a.m. A caller reported seeing a vehicle leaving the Wahkiakum on the Move parking lot. The caller wanted the call logged in case there are any complaints in the future. 4:02 a.m. A caller reported a person walking in the roadway of the Puget Island bridge with lights around their neck. A second caller reported seeing a person covered in Christmas lights near the rail of the bridge. Deputies observed balloons with lights tied to the bridge railing but no one was present. 5:17 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a Cathlamet resident who had dislocated their knee. 11:58 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a single vehicle accident involving a motorcycle in Deep River.

September 8 12:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly resident who was dehydrated. 2:42 p.m. The District #4 Fire Department was dispatched to the Huckelberry Ridge fire in east Wahkiakum County.
