Sheriff's Report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

August 12 6:46 a.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to an elderly person who had fallen. 9:09 a.m. A caller reported a commercial vehicle speeding on Puget Island. 12:35 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported people driving four wheelers and dirt bikes on their road. Deputies responded and said they would increase patrols in the area. 3:59 p.m. A caller on Puget Island reported several vehicles not stopping at the stop signs on the Bernie Slough bridge. 7:06 p.m. a caller in Cathlamet reported a vehicle going up and down Columbia Street at a high rate of speed.

August 13 10:51 p.m. A person was reported to be sleeping in their vehicle in the Norse Hall parking lot on Puget Island. 4:15 p.m. An accidental 911 call was placed after a Cathlamet person stepped on their medical alert bracelet. 6:46 p.m. A caller in Skamokawa called to report that their vehicle had broken down. The Washington State Patrol contacted a towing company for the motorists. 11:58 p.m. A Cathlamet caller reported that they gave a cat to someone, and that person gave the cat to a person that the caller did not approve of. The caller said that after the people with the cat had stolen cat food from them that they took the cat back. Now the caller said that the people they took the cat from were at their house threatening to break in.

August 14 3:23 a.m. Dispatch picked up a vehicle accident alert from a cell phone in the Westend. After the call ended dispatch called the phone back and the driver said that they had hit a deer but did not need assistance. 8:36 a.m. A Skamokawa caller reported that their relative who lived in a trailer on their property woke up to a neighbor inside their trailer. After the incident the neighbor walked back to their property. 12:51 p.m. A Cathlamet caller reported that their neighbor was upset that they were painting their fence. 1:51 p.m. A Cathlamet caller reported a possible case of animal hoarding. The Sheriff’s department responded. 3:45 p.m. A motorist reported a vehicle on the side of the road on SR4 at Nassa Point. Two individuals were near the vehicle hitch hiking. The Washington State Patrol was notified. 4:46 p.m. The Pacific County Sheriff’s office notified the Wahkiakum Sheriff’s department of a possible case of dog hoarding. 9:12 p.m. A set of keys was found at the playground of the school in Cathlamet. 9:49 p.m. A dead deer was reported in the middle of the road just west of the Deep River bridge. 10:09 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to an elderly Cathlamet resident who had fallen.

August 15 12:37 p.m. A knife was found on the footbridge near the fairgrounds in Skamokawa. 12:49 p.m. An employee at a Cathlamet business reported having their cell phone stolen. 4:14 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly person who was ill. 4:26 p.m. An illegally parked vehicle was reported at the fairgrounds. 5:26 p.m. A tree was reported down on Beaver Creek road blocking the west bound lane.

August 16 6:15 a.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to an elderly person with back pain. 9:24 a.m. A large canvas bag was found behind the concrete barrier on SR4 at Nassa Point. 11:14 a.m. A Cathlamet homeowner complained that their neighbor was weed eating and that rocks were hitting their car. Deputies explained that the incident was not criminal in nature and asked the person notify the neighbor when they will be working so the caller could move their car. 6:17 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies responded to a elderly person who had fallen. Personnel from the district 4 fire department also responded. 7:17 p.m. Gun shots were reported in the area of the golf course in Cathlamet. Deputies patrolled the neighborhood but did not hear more shots.

August 17 11:40 a.m. A power outage was reported in the Little Cape Horn area. District 4 fire personnel responded and the PUD was notified. 1:49 p.m. A deputy was flagged down on SR4 in Cathlamet to assist with a dog they found. Wahkiakum Animal Advocates Group was contacted and the dog was returned to their owner. 4:40 p.m. A caller reported seeing someone dumping a boat at the KM Mountain transfer station. Deputies contacted the driver who said that they were having car problems and would like to leave the boat temporarily. 11:36 p.m. A crash alert from a cell phone was activated when a motorist braked hard to avoid hitting a deer.

August 18 8:31 a.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to an elderly person who had fallen. 9:22 a.m. A vehicle unlock was requested at a residence in the Elochoman Valley. 9:37 a.m. A single vehicle, non-injury accident was reported in the westend at Miller Point Road. 1:16 p.m. A power outage was reported on Ostervold road on Puget Island. The PUD was notified. 1:53 p.m. Another power outage was reported on SR4 east of Cathlamet. 1:57 p.m. A brush fire was reported east of Cathlamet on SR4. The district 4 fire department responded to the scene and requested the PUD cut power to the area. 7:11 p.m. A motorist in the Elochoman Valley reported an injured deer on the side
