Local organization holds prom for senior

On August 24, from 6-9 p.m., the Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington and the Cathlamet Woman’s Club will be sponsoring the second annual Cathlamet Senior Prom at the Hope Center.

Attendees will be serenaded by the musical talents of Cedar Mora, whose melodies will fill the room as dancers sway to the euphony of his notes. Beverages and light refreshments will be served as guests mingle and connect over the cheerful atmosphere. In-house photographer Ken Jayne will be taking photos, an opportunity to show off those glamorous prom outfits. Last year, Ken, at his own expense, provided all participants with a beautiful 5x7 and an 8x10 photograph. As the evening progresses, attendees will move from the dining area to the dance hall, in the back of the building. Here we will dance our way through the hit tunes of the decades, from the ‘50s to the ’90s.

All seniors (55+) in our community are invited and encouraged to attend. There will be plenty of single attendees so don’t be afraid to show up without a date! Prom dresses and tuxedos are not required but we are encouraging folks to wear some lovely evening attire. My gown was only $10 at the thrift store!

Admission to this event is free of charge but there will be a donation jar for those willing to donate to cover the costs. We also hope to have door prizes provided by our local businesses again this year.

We have secured partial funding through our Health and Human Services, the Area Agency for Aging and Disablities of Southwest Washington as well as the Cathlamet Woman’s Club. In addition to helping financially, the Woman’s Club will provide volunteers to help decorate and work the event. We welcome any other local groups or individuals to sponsor the event or volunteer.

This senior prom is an excellent opportunity to get out, get dressed up, revisit or reinvent your dance moves, and just have fun. Last year’s event was a big hit and we are hoping to see more new faces and have an even better turnout this year.
