Little Island Creamery hosts Jazz on the River

The Minntah Quartet with Special Guest Jimmy Herrod will perform at Jazz on the River, presented by Little Island Creamery and the Astoria Jazz Festival, on Sunday Sept. 1, from 2-4 p.m. Dinner will be prepared by Surf 2 Soul. The Minntah Quartet, formed by the young, award-winning singer Minntah Haefker has been gathering steam on the local northwest music scene. Led by Haefker, members of the quartet include well-known jazz musicians Tim Gilson on bass, Joe Bagg on piano and Brent Follis on drums.

Based in Astoria and Portland, Haefker has been a frequent guest with her uncle’s eclectic chamber music group “3 Leg Torso.” She has also performed at the Astoria Music Festival, Astoria Jazz Festival, Cathedral Park Festival and with many Portland jazz groups, including the Brent Follis Trio, Tom Grant Trio and the Christopher Brown Quartet.

For this concert, Special Guest, Jimmie Herrod joins the quartet. The critically acclaimed, national and internationally known vocalist and Portland native, Herrod traverses many musical styles and genres including jazz, pop, funk and his own original songs. Herrod caught national attention as a finalist on the NBC show America’s Got Talent. He has performed with numerous symphonies, including the Oregon Symphony and the National Symphony Orchestra and is currently a guest vocalist with Pink Martini.

Additionally, Chef and Food 2 Soul food cart owner Jordan Wilson brings his special dishes to Jazz on the River. A passion for the ocean’s bounty and the soulful flavors of home-cooked meals inspired Jordan to bring his culinary skills to Astoria and the North Coast where Surf 2 Soul quickly became a local favorite. You will have the opportunity to taste Jordan’s fresh, sustainably sourced cooking when he serves Sunday afternoon supper. The menu includes grilled beef cuts from Little Island Creamery Beef, as well as a chicken option, a variety of side dishes and a scrumptious peach cobbler with Little Island Creamery ice cream.
