Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Greetings from the fair office! Wow, it's hard to believe August is already here. With that said, the animal entry due date has come and gone and it looks like we will have a lot of animals for the fair this year. If anyone wants to be a vendor this year, there are still a few vendor spots left; just call the office and I will get back to you ASAP. If you have called for a spot and have not returned the contracts, please let me know that you are planning on coming as I am going to start setting up spots by the end of next week. Entries to the fair start coming in on Monday, August 12, so check your fair book to see what entries come in on that day.
We have exciting new things in the fair this year! Does anyone out there know what Mutton Bustin’ is? Get ready fans, because Mutton Bustin’ is a chance for children to practice their future in bull riding by donning helmets and mounting sheep. We will have three shows per day at the fairgrounds and any child under 55 pounds can sign up in the office to participate in the event at the fair; times will be announced next week. The Legendary Longhorns will also be at the fair this year. Come join us for Longhorn shows which will include a telling of the history of the Texas Longhorn, music, and demonstrations done with the steers. There will be opportunities for photos and even a ride.
If you would like to find out more about either one of these events you can look up Ride Hard Entertainment. For those who are too old to participate in Mutton Bustin’ but still want to test their skills, the mechanical bull will be here this year. On the stage Thursday August 15 we have some local favorites: Evergreen Chill, Julie Dalen, and Rock Fish Blues Band. On Friday August 16, The Reptile Roadshow will be here along with Blauntic, Dug Cox and Smokewagon, Steelhead, and the Mark Seymour Band at 6:30 p.m. Come out and show support for the local 4-H and FFA at the Market Sale. Saturday, the band that has been with the fair for 11 years, Arena Rock Gold, will take the stage at 7pm. Earlier in the day, Michelle Lambert will take the stage. Also on Saturday, the Salmon BBQ will begin at noon at only $10 a plate. The new Saturday event will be put on by local fire districts as they compete in the water ball competition in the park. Come see who will take home the trophy and don't forget the contest going on at the fair.
Season Passes are now on sale for only $7. You can purchase them at the fair office, Maria's restaurant in Cathlamet, or from the young ladies that will be coming around with them. Hope to see you at the fair.
