Sheriff's report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

July 8 6:44 a.m. A caller to the sheriff's office reported that a bull and three cows were loose on Brooks Slough Rd. 11:01 a.m. An Elochoman Valley homeowner reported a neighbor burning illegally. The sheriff’s department and fire district 4 responded. 4:06 p.m. A motorist west of Cathlamet reported that their wallet had been stolen from their car. 5:06 p.m. A driver west of county line park reported a reckless driver. 5:22 p.m. A Deep River resident reported fencing stolen from their property. 8:25 p.m. A Elochoman Valley homeowner reported their neighbor’s dog were loose. Deputies responded and spoke with the dog owners. 9:38 p.m. A driver on Puget Island reported an injured fawn on South Welcome Slough Road. Deputies responded but could not locate the fawn.

July 9 5:58 a.m. A motorist reported that a car was pulling a motorcycle from a ditch on Puget Island. The sheriff’s office responded to provide traffic control. 7:10 a.m. A power outage was reported in the Grays River area. A local resident said that they had heard a loud explosion before the outage began. The Grays River fire department and the PUD responded. 7:11 p.m. Three horses were reported loose on Ingals Road in the Skamokawa area. Dispatch attempted to contact the owners without result. 3:15 p.m. Cathlamet Emergency Services responded to a person in the Elochoman Valley with a broken ankle.

July 10 12:44 p.m. A Westend resident reported that the license plate was stolen off their trailer. 5:50 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen. 7:53 p.m. Deputies responded to a Cathlamet business to assist a motorist who had locked their keys in their car.

July 11 11:59 a.m. A Cathlamet homeowner requested assistance from sheriff’s deputies to remove a neighbor from their property. 1:27 p.m. A Grays River caller reported that a neighbor was burning debris in violation of the burn ban. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded but found no fire. 2:58 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported a suspicious person outside their home the night before. 3:10 p.m. A Beaver Creek homeowner reported a fire in their barn. The Cathlamet fire department responded and reported visible fire and smoke at the scene. Wahkiakum PUD was asked to respond and shut off power to the barn. 7:56 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a person in Skamokawa who was having an allergic reaction to a wasp sting.

July 12 10:36 a.m. Sheriff’s Deputies assisted a motorist on Main Street in Cathlamet who had locked their keys in their car. 11:50 a.m. A Rosburg caller reported a deceased deer. The Department of Natural Resources was advised. 12:01 p.m. A brush fire was reported on Puget Island. The Puget Island fire department responded to assist the homeowner. 4:56 p.m. A Deep River homeowner called in to report that a neighbor was riding a motorcycle at a high rate of speed. 5:29 p.m. A welfare check was requested on a Puget Island resident with health problems. 6:59 p.m. A resident of Cathlamet reported a vehicle stopping at every mailbox on their street. Sheriff’s deputies contacted the driver who presented them with identification from the post office.

July 13 12:27 p.m. Sheriff’s Deputies assisted campers at the Elochoman Slough marina who were locked out of their camper. 3:03 p.m. A caller reported a large group of motorcyclists speeding in the Grays River area. 4:09 p.m. A Cathlamet homeowner reported that a truck and trailer were parked, blocking one lane of Columbia Street. 5:04 p.m. Deputies assisted a person on Puget Island who was locked out of their vehicle. 5:22 p.m. A power outage was reported in the Westend. The PUD was notified. 5:51 p.m. Sheriff’s Deputies assisted a motorist who had no cell service contact a towing company.
