Sherriff's report

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the last week, including:

July 1 2:52 p.m. A welfare check was requested on an elderly Cathlamet resident with mobility issues. Sheriff’s deputies responded. 1:43 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services transported a resident with an injury to the hospital.

July 2 7:51 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a Westend resident with breathing problems. 11:40 p.m. A person in Cathlamet turned in a key found it a parking lot. 2:51 p.m. A black and white dog was found on the Cathlamet bridge. 3:20 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies assisted a motorist on Main Street in Cathlamet who had locked their keys in their car 10:49 p.m. A welfare check was requested on a Puget Island resident who had gone hiking earlier in the day and had not checked in after their hike. Deputies went to their residence and found the person safe and secure. 11:55 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a Cathlamet resident with a history of heart problems. After speaking with medics the person declined transportation to the hospital.

July 3 3:33 p.m. Deputies responded to a nuisance complaint on Main Street in Cathlamet. 5:46 p.m. A Grays River homeowner reported that their neighbor was setting off sticks of dynamite.

July 4 4:57 a.m. Dispatch was notified that the Oscar B. ferry was out of service. 11:00 a.m. A Deep River caller retrieved a empty boat from the Columbia river. The Sheriff’s department contacted the owner by phone. 11:53 a.m. The Puget Island Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Sunny Sands road. 12:08 p.m. A caller in the Deep River area reported nails all oer the roadway on a blind corner. The Washington State Patrol was notified. 1:15 p.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to a resident with abdominal pain. 1:06 a.m. A noise complaint was reported in the Elochoman Valley. The caller stated that the fireworks were likely illegal. 1:12 a.m. A Puget Island resident said that they heard voices and the sound of breaking glass on their front porch.

July 5 Residents near Flandersville reported people parked on the side of the road were causing a disturbance by screaming at people. 10:42 p.m. A powerline was reported down in the Elochoman Valley. The Sheriff’s department and the Cathlamet Fire Department responded. 2:51 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a possible seizure. 3:19 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services and the District 4 fire department responded to a vehicle fire west of Cathlamet on SR4. 9:08 p.m. The Skamokawa fire department responded to a person who had dislocated their knee.

July 6 A homeowner in the Grays River area called to complain that their neighbor was setting off fireworks. 6:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to an elderly person who had fainted. 7:38 p.m. The Grays River fire department responded to a power outage. The PUD was notified. 7:44 p.m. Dogs were found running loose on Beaver Creek Rd. 8:14 p.m. A caller on Puget Island reported people setting off fireworks. Sheriff’s deputies responded and asked the people to stop. 9:21 p.m. People setting off fireworks were reported on the beach on Puget Island. 10:25 p.m. People were reported setting off fireworks in the Deep River area.

July 7 8:30 a.m. A caller reported that their neighbor was burning debris on their property. The district 4 Fire Department responded and asked the homeowner to put out the fire. 3:16 p.m. A Puget Island resident reported that a neighbors dog was barking at all hours. Deputies responded but did not hear any barking. 8:56 p.m. Cathlamet emergency services responded to a resident with breathing problems. 11:42 p.m. Airport traffic control advised the Sheriff’s Department that someone was using a laser three miles northeast of Cathlamet.
