CRAZY WEATHER. As this week begins, we had a mix of everything, which included thunder and buckets of rain mixed in with sunshine and blue skies, and it really depended on where you were as to what you had at your house and when you had it, but all in all, it was a day of "what's next?" I think. We did enjoy some nice days earlier, along with some wet ones, but now that it is officially Summer, let's hope the dry and sunny forecast shows up and dries out our webbed feet a bit, ha!

PUGET ISLAND SALE IS HERE. Yes indeed, the much anticipated Puget Island Garage and Yard Sale is happening this weekend, beginning on Friday June 21st thru 23rd. We hope you will find lots of treasures while also being mindful of traffic, keeping clear of mailboxes when parking and respecting people’s private property when going from house to house. Don't forget to stop by the Norse Hall either Friday or Saturday for a hot dog or a pulled pork sandwich during their lunch hours of 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and help support them while resting your feet for a bit. Don't forget to stop by the Puget Island Fire Hall just south on SR 409 and shop there too, as they have lots of things I hear and they in turn use the funds to help the community, especially come winter time, so have a great time looking around and getting those great deals everywhere.
NEW EXHIBIT. Beginning June 29, the Friends of Skamokawa invite you to come up to the River Life Interpretive Center in Skamokawa as they welcome a new Skamokawa Creamery Exhibit: "Till the Cows Come Home". The open reception for this new exhibit with goodies and cheese samples from the Little Island Creamery will be happening from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. that day. This exhibit showcases the creameries from 1898 to 1942 and will last until Aug. 31. The Hall is open from Noon to 4 p.m. each Saturday and Sunday and is located in downtown Skamokawa, Milepost 29. Their coming events will include their online auction fund raiser beginning on Nov. 1. As usual, your help in donating items to be auctioned off would be deeply appreciated. More on that at a later time, but that's something to be thinking about. Also, they will be holding a "Sip and Paint" event on Nov. 8. Then in December, it will be "Deck the Hall" time and that will run from Dec. 1 thru 15 and will be a great time to shop at the hall with multiple vendors up there in the interpretive center along with the great gift and book shop. More info? Call 360-795-3007 or email: fos1894@gmail.com
SONG CIRCLE THIS SUNDAY. Once again, the Skamokawa Grange Hall will be brimming with music as Wahkiakum VIBES will be putting on their June Acoustic Song Circle, June 23. Starting time is 3 PM and all are welcome to join in and play. If you don’t play an instrument, you are more than welcome to attend and enjoy the music and tap your toes. If you need more information call 360-795-3434 or check the group out on Facebook. The coffee is always on and donations to the grange hall are gladly accepted.
MONTH AWAY. Well, it's hard to believe but the big Bald Eagle Days parade and fireworks show is just a month away, and it will be held on July 20th. Wow, where is the time going? Needless to say, we hope you've shined up a car, made a float, gotten a club together to walk in the parade, as that's what makes this small town parade so much fun. It gets the locals out and about and they bring their family and friends and well, it's just a real swell time. There will be lots of vendors so you can shop a lot, snack a lot and find your spot on Main Street for the parade at noon. Some of us have family reunions or class reunions that we are looking forward to. Also on Bald Eagle Days, the Norse Hall on Puget Island will be open for Bingo in the evening, beginning at 6 p.m., so you can play a few games and maybe win some money, and then head back to town to watch the fireworks at the marina. At any rate, it's a full day of fun, with a run in the morning and explosions at night so be sure to have it listed on your calendar. As the big day gets closer, a full schedule of events will be published and you can check out all that Bald Eagle Days offers.
GREAT BIRTHDAY. Speaking of fun, when Michaela Sechler turned thirty earlier this month, she got to enjoy quite a celebration. First it was a trip to Atlanta to visit husband Blakes' brother and wife, Kyle and Suzy, and then it was a side trip up to Nashville to see some friends there before catching a plane and making a big leap to South America, where she and hubby stayed a week on a little Island off the coast of Columbia. While there, she was treated to a surprise as Blake had scheduled some cooking classes for the two of them to learn how to fix some of the local cuisine, not too shabby.
AS ALWAYS. On Thursdays, from 10 to Noon, you are welcome to come to the Skamokawa Grange Hall at 18 Fairgrounds Road just west of the "O" Tavern, and attend their free community breakfast. Bring a treat to share and your own mug to help cut costs. If you are able, a donation can be made to keep the doors open. On Fridays, it's time to go down to the Elochoman Marina Street Market in Cathlamet from 3:30 to 6:30 and enjoy shopping at the various vendors. You can get a beautiful hand made wooden bowl by Skamokawa craftsman, Pat Conrad or maybe some macrame items made by Sharyl Iblings or some soaps by the Elochoman Soap Works group or maybe some homemade goodies made by some young entrepreneurs. The market will take place every Friday through September 27. Then on Wednesday, June 26, the Cathlamet Senior Friendship group will be meeting at Our Savior Lutheran Church. They meet every Wednesday from Noon to 3. You are welcome to come by and check them out, and it sounds like they have a lot of smaller groups meeting up with specialized interests, but some folks just like to share a treat and gab and have a cup of coffee and meet some new folks, so stop on by, all seniors are welcome. You can also check out this group on Facebook. NOW OPEN It's time to swim. Yes indeed, the weather is supposed to be getting nicer so the Julia Butler Swimming Pool has announced that the "Cathlamet Swimming Pool" schedule now and it says it opened on June 17, this past Monday, so either check that out online or on Facebook for all the information for days and times and costs and rental opportunities. I will tell you there is a free "open swim" on Saturdays only, so head up that way, it's next to the high school, and you should be able to find all the information up there.
HAPPY FIRST DAY OF SUMMER EVERYBODY!
