Mary died peacefully in Portland Oregon on March 14th, 2024 at the age of 87. Mary was born in McKenna, Washington on February 26th, 1937 to parents Vernon and Maureen Clark. Mary attended Ilwaco High School and went on to marry Robert Torppa in 1952. Together they had four children: Lucinda, Thomas, Robert Jr. and Donald Torppa. Mary was preceded in death by her parents Vernon and Maureen, her two sisters Dottie and Jeanie, Robert Torppa Sr., and her second husband Danny Haase whom she married in 1970.
Son Thomas Torppa, Grandsons Preston and Ryan Torppa. Survived by Lucinda Johnson, sons Robert JR Torppa and Donald Torppa. Stepchildren Tammy Gavenhorse, Mike Haase, Steve Haase and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mary had many hobbies and talents, many good friends and always had a welcoming smile and a great sense of humor. She was a singer and songwriter with a beautiful voice. She played both piano and organ and sang at many churches, weddings and funerals. She was very involved with the Adventist Church in Cathlamet and even served as Deacon for a time. She raised her family on a farm, raising cows, pigs, chickens, goats, canning her own food, and was a blue ribbon baker. She quilted and enjoyed puzzles. Her greatest passion was teaching her grandchildren the lost art of making a homemade meal, including a delicious dessert. A celebration of life will be held on April 27th at the Cathlamet Adventist church 3 Fern Hill Road, Cathlamet at 1:30 p.m.
