The Wahkiakum Mules boys basketball team headed to Spokane this week to compete in the State 2B Tournament after beating Liberty (Spangle) in a regional matchup over the weekend.
It was a real team effort in the Mules 66-53 win against Liberty, with nearly everyone adding to the score. The two teams were evenly matched during the first half, but in the third quarter, the Mules began to pull ahead and never looked back.
Kyler Sause scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. Parker Leitz added 17 points. Zakk Carlson had 13 points and seven rebounds. Jacob Johnson contributed nine points and eight assists. Nathan Garrett scored four points and had four rebounds. Grant Wilson and Cooper Carlson added two points apiece.
"We set a goal this summer to make it to Spokane and it's been one hell of a road, but we got it done," Coach Rob Garrett said. "The Spokane Arena is one of the greatest places on the planet in my opinion, and we couldn't be more excited to get the opportunity to continue our season there. It's time to lock in and keep this thing rolling."
"These guys have come a long way and have really learned to play together and when they do it's a lot of fun to watch," he added.
