The Writer’s Guild of Astoria will host an author reading on Saturday, March 23 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in honor of Women’s History Month. The event is free to the public and will feature three authors from the lower Columbia region: Marianne Monson, Kama O’Connor, and Deb Vanasse. The authors will read from their work, share about their writing processes, and take questions from the audience. Books will be available for purchase, with a reception and signing to follow.
Marianne Monson is the author of twelve books for children and adults with an emphasis on women's history. Her book “Frontier Grit,” released in 2016, was nominated for an Amelia Bloomer award by the American Library Association. Her follow up, “Women of the Blue and Gray,” won a gold medal from the Military Writers Society of America. She is the founder of The Writer’s Guild.
Kama O’Connor (also writing as Kristine Lynn) has published six novels, with six others slated for publication in 2024. Her short stories and essays have been widely published in magazines like Zone 3, Military Spouse Magazine, and others. Her story, “Daisy-Chained” was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. She holds an MFA in Fiction from Northern Arizona University and teaches writing at Clatsop Community College.
Deb Vanasse (also writing as Vanessa Lind) began publishing in 1997 and has released over 25 books with traditional and independent presses. During her 36 years in Alaska, she co-founded 49 Writers, a statewide writing center.
