The Wahkiakum Mules girls basketball team celebrated their second win of the season last week, beating Winlock 32-31 in a league game in front of a home crowd on Thursday.
“I’m so proud of the girls,” Coach Ross Lofstrom said. “We were down eight in the fourth and didn’t give up. We played tenacious defense with Amirah Abdul Kariem and Payton Mendez forcing multiple turnovers late in the game. Sam Dela Cruz had her best game of the year, making free throws to seal the win. Jessie LeFever was controlling the pace and distributing the ball incredibly well, along with being our leading scorer. Brienna Cothren was playing incredibly tough, getting offensive and defensive rebounds.”
LeFever scored eight points. Mendez added seven points. Dela Cruz had six points, Abdul Kariem scored five points, Cothren had four points, and Amy Horman contributed two.
