Comets football faces Pomeroy

Volleyball season ends

The Naselle Comets beat Quilcene 48-20 in District 1/2/3/4 1B football on Friday. They will be in Pomeroy this Saturday for the first round of the State 1B tournament to play Pomeroy at 1 p.m.

The game will be a season ender for the loser, but the winner will go on to face the number two ranked 1B team in the state, Wilbur-Creston-Keller next weekend in the quarterfinals.

The season ended for the Naselle Comet volleyball team this week during the District 4 1B tournament. Despite a three set win on November 1 against Firm Foundation and another three-set win the following evening against Mary M. Knight, they were eliminated after two consecutive losses, first to Mossyrock in three sets on Friday and then to Willapa Valley in three sets on Saturday.

Three Comet runners competed in the 1B/2B Cross Country Championships on Saturday at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco. In a race with 163 boys, senior Derek Suomela finished in 65th place with a time of 18:42.80, while freshman Caesar Garcia placed 101st with a time of 19:32.20. With 79 running in girls’ race, eighth grader Karsen Green placed 47th with a time of 23:32.70.
