Mules trounce Toutle Lake in first win of season

The Wahkiakum Mules football team got their first win of the season in front of a home crowd on Friday, beating Toutle Lake 63-26.

"The guys played really well," Coach Ryan Lorenzo said. "We still got a lot to work on but a win was definitely needed."

Lorenzo had some praise for quarterback Zakkary Carlson, as well as Jacob Johnson, Donovan Watson, and Unai Perez Martin.

"Zakk played really well with nine combined touchdowns, including three on the ground and six in the air," Lorenzo said. "Jacob Johnson probably played his best football game that I've seen him play. He led the team in tackles. Had an amazing one handed snag. Broke three tackles on his way to a touchdown. Donovan Watson was in the backfield all night. He was refusing to get blocked. Unai was nine for nine for extra points, that's really helpful and impressive."

Z. Carlson completed 12 of 19 passes for 228 yards and six touchdowns. He led rushing with 136 yards on 10 carries.

Jayden Stoddard rushed for 54 yards on four carries, and gained another 12 yards receiving.

Grant Wilson rushed for 37 yards on three carries and gained 63 more yards receiving. Cooper Carlson rushed for 32 yards on one carry, and gained another 68 yards receiving.

Johnson, Wilson, and Stoddard had one touchdown apiece, and Z. Carlson and C. Carlson combined for six more with three each.

On defense, Gage Robinson and Aimon Reavely had one sack each. Filip Tesar had three solo tackles and assisted with five; Mason Curl had three, and assisted with four; Wilson one and six; while Johnson had seven solo tackles.

Next up, the Mules head to Ilwaco on Friday to play the Fishermen.
