Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
The Eagle continues to evolve. Our staff is taking on new roles and responsibilities. Diana Zimmerman continues to report on matters of interest to our readers in Wahkiakum County, but additionally has taken on the mantle of News Editor, determining the scope of each weekly issue’s reporting. At her direction, new publisher Brandon J. Simmons has taken on some writing duties; and regular readers will have noticed that business manager and photographer Ian Brandon has taken on the weekly county commissioner’s meetings.
Many of these changes have been instigated by the space left by Rick Nelson, our late editor and publisher. But The Eagle is anticipating another big change: the departure of The Eagle’s long-time production chief, Geri Florek. Geri has been with the paper for 30 years and is training the staff in her many duties as she prepares for a well-deserved retirement. Geri’s dedication to The Eagle and its readers has been remarkable. Her deep knowledge of the paper and its history has made an indelible impression on the staff.
As we continue to grow and evolve, we are pleased to share that we have entered into a content sharing agreement with The Chinook Observer, an arrangement that will help to supplement our own reporting when necessary as we continue to develop our highly energetic and dedicated staff. Though The Eagle will continue to focus primarily on stories that are of greatest interest to residents of Wahkiakum County, readers may notice a few more stories covering the goings on in Pacific County.
Thank you for supporting The Eagle.
