A special filing period for three elected positions came and went quietly last week.
According to Amanda Boehler, election coordinator for the Wahkiakum Auditor’s Office, no one filed for the Skamokawa Water/Sewer District position or the Cemetery District #1 position. Robert Torppa, however, filed for the Naselle Grays River Valley School District #155 Director 1 position.
According to the RCW 29A.24.201, Boehler said, “If no candidate files for an office during the special filing period, an additional filing period will not be opened. The office will be up for election at the next general election held for that jurisdiction. For city, town or district lapsed positions, the incumbent will continue to serve until a successor is elected.”
The incumbent for the water district is Levi Helms and Cathy LaBerge is the incumbent for the cemetery district position.
There will not be a primary election this year, and all candidates will advance to the general election, Boehler said.
On June 7, the auditor’s office conducted a lot draw to determine the order that candidates will appear on the general election ballot.
