The Wahkiakum Mules baseball team ended their regular season with two victories against Winlock this week, bringing their overall record to 5-12.
On Friday, the team traveled to Winlock and won, 20-13.
On offense, Tanner Collupy had a great day at the plate going two for three with a base clearing triple after Dominic Curl was intentionally walked to load the bases, Coach Garrett Radcliffe said. Cooper Carlson went three for three with two walks.
Grant Wilson picked up the win as starting pitcher, and some younger pitchers got some time on the mound, which will help them develop at varsity level, according to Radcliffe.
On Saturday, the Mules beat Winlock at home, 13-3 and celebrated Senior Day.
"We were able to secure another victory behind dominant performances by our seniors Dominic and Tanner," Radcliffe said. "Curl went three for five with a double and received the win on the mound after three innings and five strikeouts. Collupy followed with three scoreless innings on the mound to secure the last regular season game victory."
"We've really faced some tough, tough competition these last couple weeks so it was good to be in a game once again," Radcliffe said. "It's also a great way to lead into the district tournament with some momentum on our side."
It was the last home game to be coached by the legendary Jeff Rooklidge, Radcliffe said.
"It felt really good to make sure Coach Rook's last game on this field was a win," said Collupy. "He's done a lot for us, and a lot for this school. It feels good that we were able to return that favor today."
The Mules are still waiting for other teams to finish their seasons and are currently tied with Rainier High School, according to Radcliffe. They will be coin-flipping for the seeding assignment for the district tournament.
"It's a clean slate and it's wide open for us to make a run when no one expects it," he added.
The Mules will play this Saturday at 11 a.m., but location and opponent are yet to be determined. Check the Wahkiakum Mules Sport Report for more details, which will be posted as soon as they become available.
