Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Marvin Keith Davenport, 87, of Cathlamet, died March 26, 2023. He was born July 24,1935 in Braman, Oklahoma to Loren and Muriel Davenport and grew up with one sister, Ella Louise Davenport.
He attended Olympia High school and married the love of his life Dorothy Armstrong in 1955. Together they raised four children. Diane, David, Dennis and Darla.
Marv had various jobs throughout his lifetime. At the age of 10 Marv worked in the hay fields and through high school he worked at a gas station. He went on to work at a dairy farm breeding cattle and worked at two different lumber mills, a lyme plant, and delivered fuel. Sometimes Marv worked three jobs at a time. He started working in the logging industry which brought his family to Cathlamet in 1968. Marv and Dorothy's last place of business was Marv's Chevron and RV park in Cathlamet.
Marv was a very hard working man and took great pride in providing for his family. He was a jack of all trades and could do pretty much anything he set his mind to.
He had many hunting and fishing trips with his sons, grandsons and friends. He enjoyed taking his boat out on the river at every opportunity. He gave his family and friends wonderful memories of fun on the river.
Marv had a great sense of humor and many were the recipients of his joking and pranks. Even in the last few months and weeks he continued his humor to give others a laugh.
Most importantly throughout Marv's life he served God and was a man of integrity. Marv served in leadership in some capacity at every church they attended. He was dedicated to bringing his family to the house of God and lived to serve the God of the Bible, in all ways.
Marv was predeceased by his father, mother, sister and youngest son. He is survived by his loving wife, three children, nine grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Marv's service will be held April 8, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Columbia Heights Assembly of God, Longview.
