Comets, Mules opne track and field season

The Wahkiakum Mule track team started their season on Thursday at a 1B/2B/1A meet in Kalama competing against teams from Adna, Elma, Morton/White Pass and Toledo.

Only one Mule, senior Landon Nielsen, placed in the top six in any event, and he lead the Mule boys to a sixth place finish with 18 points.

200 meters — 6. Landon Nielsen 25.3; 400 meters — 3. Nielsen 59.26; Shot put — 1. Nielsen 37-05.5; Javelin — 2. Nielsen 125-09.

The Mules travel to Onalaska Thursday (today) for another 1B/2B/1A meet.

The Naselle track team participated in a 1B/2B/1A meet at Toutle Lake on Thursday along with teams from Chief Leschi, Onalaska, Rainier and the Washington School for the Deaf.

Top six finishers for the Naselle boys include:

100 meters — 3. Tyler Kirkman 12.59, 5. Derek Suomela 12.77; 200 meters — 4. Malcolm Schell 26.49; 400 meters — 1. Suomela 55.15; 1600 meters — 4. Jacob Pakenen 5:30.37; Shot put — 1. Kirkman 37-10, 5. Brayden Colombo 31-9; Discus — 2. Kirkman 116-7, 4. Elmer Toftemark 101-9, 5. Schell 99-7, 6. Colombo 99-6; Javelin — 2. Colombo 131-6, 4. Toftemark 113-4, 5. Schell 110-11; High jump — 2. Suomela 5-4; Pole vault — 2. Pakenen 9-6; Long jump — 4. Pakenen 17-2.5.

Underhill 50-1; Javelin — 2. Colombo 93-1; High jump — 3. B. Dunagan 4-8, 5. M. Dunagan 4-6; Long jump — 2. M. Dunagan 14-8.5; Triple jump — 2. Colombo 29-8, 4. B. Dunagan 26-6.5.

The Comets head to Mossyrock Thursday (today) to compete against teams from Chief Leschi, Pe Ell, South Bend, and Tenino.
