Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891

Edelgard Stoeger

Edelgard Stoeger was born (July 1931 - November 2021) to Anni and Ernst Sommer in Cologne, Germany. In 1953 she married Herbert Stoeger PhD in Austria, where she resided for the first years of their marriage and where her children Gabriele and Wilfried were born. Amidst multiple trans-oceanic moves with her husband to and from the USA and Switzerland, Edelgard continued to grow and raise her family, which now included US born Reinhard. Her professional journey as a physical and massage therapist brought many patients relief and healing. She was a life-long member of the SDA church in which she vibrantly served as a health and exercise coach, participated as a choir member and Bible teacher. In her spare time she enjoyed all manner of physical activity such as opportunities to hike, swim in rivers, participate and lead in international folk-dancing troupes both in Europe and later in Colorado where she lived with Herbert during most of her retirement.

In 2019 she moved to Cathlamet on Puget Island, where she enjoyed her final years of life, observing the vibrant bird life out of her windows and on her walks around Little Island, petting the goats and her "therapy cows," the regular flower offerings from Little Island Farm and Flowers and of course the pancakes at Patty Cakes. She enjoyed several forays out on the Columbia River in the local rowing skiff.

She was preceded in death by her husband Herbert and leaves behind three children Gabriele (Jim), Wilfried (Mary Ann), Reinhard (Lisa), six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Sat, Sept 17, 2022 at the Cathlamet SDA Church at 3 p.m. All who knew her and were so kind to her in her sunset years are welcome to attend the service.
