Missing swimmers found

According to an August 11 press release from the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office and the Wahkiakum County Coroner, the remains of two swimmers were recovered after they went missing on August 6 while swimming in the Columbia River at Vista Park in Skamokawa.

Alejandro Ismael Lopez Ramirez, 28, was found by family members searching the riverbank in Altoona on August 10. Wahkiakum Search and Rescue, the Wahkiakum County Sheriff’s Office marine patrol, and the Cowlitz County Dive Team resumed both land and water searches of that area the following day. Search and rescue found Elmer Ronaldo Lopez Ramirez, 26, at 10:32 a.m. on August 11.

“Again, we would like to thank the numerous people that have assisted in this recovery and remind everyone that life jackets save lives,” the press release said.
