Sheriff's Report, August 4, 2022

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

July 25 — 7:40 a.m. A caller said that her child had been staying with her mother and brother over the summer and now they were unwilling to give her back. 10:30 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident who was complaining of severe pain caused by a hernia. 11:26 a.m. A caller reported that his stepfather would not allow him to enter his residence in Cathlamet and was yelling and screaming and threatening to assault him. 12:48 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Skamokawa resident who was in and out of consciousness and complaining of pain and general weakness. 2:12 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Grays River resident who may have had a seizure and was dealing with possible heat exhaustion. The individual refused transport to the hospital. 2:31 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident with breathing difficulties, chest pain, and a rapid heart rate. 2:42 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a possible violation of a restraining order. 4:04 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that a protection order had been violated. An individual was taken into custody. 10:21 p.m. The Grays River ambulance aided a Deep River resident who was having difficulty breathing and had a history of heart problems. 11:24 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident who had fallen and was unable to get up.

July 26 — 8:52 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Puget Island resident with a swollen leg and foot. 9:07 a.m. A caller alerted the sheriff’s department that they would be in the courthouse parking lot to allow a person to pick up personal property that had been left in a repossessed vehicle. 9:45 a.m. A caller reported that the back door of a home in the Little Cape Horn area had been kicked in. It was not known if anything was taken. 11:02 a.m. A caller reported speeding vehicles on an Elochoman Valley road. 2:46 p.m. A caller said that she had been swindled out of several thousand dollars after joining a singles app. The caller was advised that she had transferred the money willingly and entered into a civil agreement with the other party. 10:28 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that a known drug abuser was parked in the neighbor’s driveway. He was concerned about the neighbor’s well being. A deputy made contact with the homeowner and found everyone was okay. The homeowner said that random people park in their driveway and that they were unconcerned.

July 27 — 10:19 a.m. An east county resident said that he had been notified that someone on a bicycle was going through his trash. 12:16 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen and needed a lift assist. 12:39 p.m. A caller reported a toxic smelling smoke in the Rosedale area. A deputy drove around and found no evidence of smoke or smell. 12:58 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident complained that someone was conducting target practice on their property. 4:28 p.m. A Deep River resident reported that an injured elk, struck by a log truck earlier that day, was in their yard. A message was left for the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife. 5:05 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious man on Main Street in Cathlamet.

July 28 — 8:12 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who may have had a stroke after she woke up with weakness and a speech impairment. 9:43 a.m. An Adult Protective Service referral was given for a resident on East Valley Road. 12:30 p.m. Money was found on a sidewalk in Cathlamet and taken to the sheriff’s department. 9:55 p.m. A tree was down and blocking both lanes of SR 4 near County Line Park.

July 29 — 10:43 a.m. A caller reported an aggressive dog on Morgan Drive. 3:05 p.m. A motor vehicle accident involving a truck, boat, and boat trailer was reported on SR 4 in the Rosburg area. Deputies, state patrol, Naselle Fire and ambulance, the Grays River Fire Department, and the Grays River ambulance responded. A caller advised that there was a large fuel spill near a creek, and the Grays River Fire Department deployed dike material.

July 30 — 8:28 a.m. A Grays River resident reported that someone had used his identity to open a bank account. 9:25 a.m. A caller reported a deceased person at a Skamokawa home. The coroner responded. 9:34 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who had fallen after a pendant alarm was activated. 9:40 a.m. A caller reported a deceased deer on the Deep River bridge. 9:55 a.m. A caller said that a Skamokawa Fire Department vehicle had sped past their home on East Valley Road and almost struck a child. The caller said the vehicle was not using lights or a siren. 10:36 a.m. Alaska Airlines reported that someone in Cathlamet had shined a blue laser light at a plane.

July 31 — 12:32 a.m. A hitchhiker on SR 4 near Flandersville was stopped by a deputy. He was unwilling to talk. 7:58 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an ailing Elochoman Valley resident. 8:03 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident complaining of abdominal pain after an alarm was activated. 5:49 p.m. A caller reported that a woman was standing in the middle of SR 4 east of Nassa Point. A deputy responded. The woman refused to identify herself. 6:52 p.m. A caller was concerned about an inebriated man who was walking down West Deep River Road and had almost fallen in the river. 7:45 p.m. An East Valley resident called after a neighbor’s truck rolled through a fence, causing significant da-mage. The neighbor later agreed to fix the fence and the caller said law enforcement did not need to respond.
