At a special meeting last Thursday, Wahkiakum School District Board of Directors approved an allocation of $753,166.78 to Verkada, a company that develops security systems, and Semaphore, a contractor for Verkada, to improve security and ADA access at the district this fall.
To save money, some of the district’s existing infrastructure will be used, but improvements are planned for the camera system and an electronic lock system will be installed. The security system will be licensed for the next 10 years.
Directors Paula Culbertson, Bobbie Stefan, and Patty Anderson were in attendance along with Superintendent Brent Freeman.
A $515,000 grant from the state will help pay for the project, and the balance will be paid from the district’s capital project and debt service funds.
