Flag collection, memorabilia highlight Redmen Hall display

The Grand Ol' Flag exhibit at Redmen Hall in Skamokawa hosted by the Friends of Skamokawa continues through August 28.

Curator Pam Emery was thinking about Flag Day, Memorial Day, and July 4 when she put this collection together in June.

"I wanted something patriotic," she said.

The collection includes several historical American flags that belong to the Director of the Cowlitz Historical Museum, Joseph Govednik.

Emery did extensive research and the exhibit includes information on the history, symbols, origins, and creators of each flag.

Service memorabilia, particularly from World War II, is on display, as well as items from local people who have "graciously given" pictures and other mementos of service.

Of particular interest to Emery is a picture of McKinley Moe, a member of a pioneering family in Skamokawa, in his WWI uniform and items from Iwo Jima.

"The exhibit will be informative and local, and I think the public will enjoy it," Emery said.

Grand Ol' Flag will run Fridays through Sundays, 12-4 p.m. through August 28 at Redmen Hall. Admission is $2 for adults and free for children 12 and under. Call the office, 360-795-3007, for more information or to schedule a tour.
