Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
In the May 12 edition of the Wahkiakum County Eagle, I issued a pie baking challenge to the entire county: Do you think you can make a better pie than me? Prove it! Enter a pie in the 2022 Wahkiakum County Fair.
This week, the Cathlamet Woman’s Club turned up the heat.
They have assembled 100 free pie baking kits, which include pie tins and all the how-to’s for submitting entries to the Wahkiakum County Fair on August 16, from 3-8 p.m. The kits are available at the Wahkiakum County Eagle office, Patty Cakes, and Tsuga Gallery in Cathlamet.
If you haven’t been in the kitchen rolling dough and pinching pie crust, you better get busy, because I’m bringing my A game to the pie category in this year’s fair. That and my very best impersonation of a trash-talking, prizefighting, pie baker.
Is it working? No? I triple dog dare you.
“Get baking,” the Woman’s Club Vice-president Pearl Blackburn said to me.
Wise words, Pearl.
Get baking, ladies and gents of all ages. Get baking. Show me what you’ve got.
