Writers guild sponsors zine making workshop

Zine creator Heather Douglas will speak about creating the personalized publications at the June 18 gathering of the Astoria Writer's Guild.

Douglas is a writer, illustrator, educator and lifelong Astorian. In addition to two hand-drawn coloring books about Astoria and the Pacific Northwest, she is the author of a poetry collection, "Creosote and Rain." Her website is http://www.oscarastoria.com.

All materials will be provided to make one zine in class, but participants are welcome to supply their own unique paper scraps, glue stick and scissors if desired.

Register in advance at http://www.thewritersguild.org. Cost is $25 for Guild members and $35 for non-members. The workshop will be at the Astoria Studio Collective, 1010 Duane Street, Astoria.

The guild is a group of writers in Astoria, strengthening the larger community through the power of the written word. The guild holds workshops, retreats, author events and hosts writing groups. The guild promotes literacy in area schools and with at-risk populations through residency and workshop programing.
