Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
April 10 — 8:27 p.m. A deputy located a juvenile who had been reported missing and had last been seen in the Naselle area. The juvenile’s guardian was contacted and he agreed that the youth could go to his aunt’s home in Longview if transportation could be provided. 8:43 p.m. A Rosburg resident reported that four alpine goats had gotten loose; she was not sure where they were and was concerned they might end up on the highway.
April 11 — 1:04 a.m. A caller reported snow and slick conditions at the top of Beaver Creek Road. The county road department was notified. 3:06 a.m. Several callers reported that a tree was down on SR 4 near Nassa Point. State patrol and the Washington State Department of Transportation were notified. 4:55 a.m. A caller reported that a tree was down on SR 4 just west of County Line Park. 5:16 a.m. Several power outages were reported on the east side of the county and on Puget Island. The PUD was notified. 5:58 a.m. A caller reported a truck parked on East Valley Road since the day before. There was a lawn mower in the back and no one was around. A deputy responded. 7:08 a.m. A cell phone was found on a Grays River Road. 9:46 a.m. A vehicle went into a ditch on top of Beaver Creek Road. 10:24 a.m. A Rosburg resident said that he had not been given a bill of sale when a washer and dryer were delivered to his home, and that he had been struck by the delivery truck. 5:26 p.m. A caller reported a large boulder on the side of SR 4 just west of County Line Park. State patrol responded and notified WSDOT.
April 12 — 6:44 a.m. A caller dialed 911 and hung up after saying he would be bringing an “unruly” juvenile to the sheriff’s office. 3:54 p.m. A caller spoke to a deputy about a landlord/tenant issue. 4:53 p.m. The sheriff’s department attempted to contact a missing person from Cowlitz County after a ping of her cell phone put her on Puget Island. 6:28 p.m. A caller said that a former tenant was attempting to break into his old apartment in Cathlamet, which he had abandoned after being given a pay or quit notice. The subject was given a trespass warning. 7:23 p.m. Two people were detained following a vehicle stop at an east county address. The property owner gave the deputy permission to check the home to see if there were more people inside. At 9:45 p.m., the Cathlamet ambulance responded to the address when a deputy requested aid for a person who was unable to maintain consciousness.
April 13 — 8:02 a.m. A welfare check was requested for a resident on Eden Valley Road after someone heard a loud pop. Two deputies responded and made contact with the individual. 10:39 a.m. A caller reported a collision on a Rosedale road. No injuries were reported. A deputy responded. 10:58 a.m. A caller said they had seen a post on Facebook about kids shooting cats on Puget Island. 12:29 p.m. A caller provided information about a man who had been stealing from job sites at night. 2:15 p.m. A deputy was asked to accompany a person from another agency while she spoke to an individual in Cathlamet. 3:11 p.m. A caller hung up after dialing 911. It turned out a child had accidentally hit the emergency button on a phone.
April 14 — 4:03 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Cathlamet resident who was complaining of dizziness. 8:36 a.m. A deputy accompanied a designated crisis responder who was evaluating an individual in Cathlamet for possible involuntary treatment. The DCR advised that the criteria for involuntary treatment had not been met. No further action was taken. 9:44 a.m. A caller reported that there were sheep on SR 409 by Norse Hall. A neighbor was trying to move them off the roadway. 11:49 a.m. A welfare check was requested for an employee who had not shown up for work and was not responding to phone calls. 1:58 p.m. A caller reported that there was an injured deer in a ditch along SR 4 just west of Nassa Point. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified. 6:47 p.m. A caller reported a man waving a firearm and blowing a duck call in Cathlamet.
April 15 — 1:07 a.m. A caller reported that a white van heading east on SR 4 was pulling a makeshift trailer with an unsecured load. A deputy observed the vehicle for several miles and did not see any items fall off the trailer. 7:54 a.m. A backpack found in the parking lot behind the library in Cathlamet was taken to the sheriff’s office. The owner was notified and picked it up at 9:01 a.m. 8:14 a.m. A caller reported that a man with a stick was walking on Columbia Street and stopping traffic. 8:32 a.m. A caller reported that an eastbound truck and trailer was losing things. State patrol was notified. 9:08 a.m. A caller notified the sheriff’s department that his staff would be entering a Cathlamet home with the owner’s permission and that they had permission to do whatever was necessary to disable the alarm if it was activated. 11:53 a.m. A caller said it looked like people were living out of a couple vehicles parked at the end of a Skamokawa road. 1:05 p.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked in a Rosedale parking lot. The individual moved the car after he was told he could not be there. 3:43 p.m. A caller reported that someone appeared to be trying to break into a building on Main Street in Cathlamet with a crowbar. 7:39 p.m. A caller reported three suspicious people on her Grays River property, breaking into a shop van. She said the people had been camping in the woods behind her property. State patrol and deputies responded. They were unable to locate the subjects. 9:11 p.m. A caller reported that there was a man with a stick in his hand at an apartment complex in Cathlamet yelling at passing vehicles.
April 16 — 12:30 a.m. A caller reported a suspicious vehicle around the mail boxes in the Glen Gate area. 11:01 a.m. A panic button was activated at a Puget Island home. It was a false alarm. 2:10 p.m. Callers were concerned about a neighbor. He was contacted and warned about his behavior. 2:58 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided a Rosedale resident complaining of severe chest pain. A concerned caller said that the person may have used an illicit drug recently, just in case personnel needed to know that for treatment. 4:21 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance aided an Elochoman Valley resident who had fallen and needed a lift assist. 6:06 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported that he had been threatened. 7:04 p.m. A caller reported rocks on SR 4 near Skamokawa. 7:09 p.m. A caller said that someone on North Welcome Slough might be burning items other than yard debris. The Cathlamet Fire Department responded.
April 17 — 3:31 a.m. An abandoned car was in a ditch along a Puget Island road. State patrol was notified. 12:04 p.m. The sheriff’s department was notified of an individual from Pacific County who had probable cause for a felony court order violation and was on the move, said to be carrying a pistol and suicidal. Deputies were advised to approach with caution if the man was located. The sheriff’s office was notified that the man had been located at 1:59 p.m.
