Assessor Coons retiring; filing period opens May 16

When filing opens for offices that are up for election this year, several county positions will be on the ballots.

In both Wahkiakum and Pacific counties, these include assessor, auditor, county clerk, sheriff, prosecuting attorney, treasurer, third district county commissioner, third district PUD commissioner, and district court judge(s).

In Wahkiakum County, three current office holders, Sheriff Mark Howie, county Commissioner Gene Strong and PUD Commissioner Dennis Reid, have announced they'll run for re-election.

And this week, Wahkiakum County Assessor Bill Coons has announced he won't seek re-election (see his statement in this issue of The Eagle).

Regional and statewide positions on the ballot include:

US Senator, Patty Murray incumbent;

US Representative, Jamie Herrera Beutler incumbent;

Washington Secretary of State; Steve Hobbs incumbent;

District 19 State Representatives, Jim Walsh and Joel McEntire, incumbents.

Also on the ballot will be three positions on the Washington Supreme Court, one seat on the State Court of Appeals, and all county precinct committee officer positions.

The period for filing declarations of candidacy opens May 16.
