Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
To The Eagle:
I like good news, and covid-19 good news is always welcome. WA State reached 72.8% fully vaccinated, exceeding their stated 70% vaccination goal to obtain herd immunity. Wahkiakum has 301 PCR confirmed cases. Washington University says 60% of Covid cases are unreported. In Wahkiakum it means 301(40%) + 451(60%) = 752(100%) total cases, and these folks now have natural covid nucleocapsid protein antibodies from their infection.
FDA Approved SpikeVax for ages 18+, joining FDA Approved Comirnaty for ages 16+. FDA website shows Moderna’s first vaccine, called Moderna Covid19 Vax, received renewal of FDA EUA ‘authorization’ on 31Jan2022 for ages 18+. The original Pfizer BioNTech Covid19 Vax was renewed by FDA EUA ‘authorization’ on 03 Jan 2022 for ages 16+.
That EUA letter: “…a significant amount of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine that was manufactured and labeled in accordance with this emergency use authorization (EUA). The authorization remains in place with respect to Pfizer-BioNTech covid-19 vaccine for this population (16+). Signed Jacqueline A. O'Shaughnessy, Ph.D. Acting Chief Scientist FDA.”
The media reporting was a bit confusing, so after four hours reading FDA vaccine product fact sheets, I see FDA gave Pfizer and Moderna 2 approved (Comirnaty and SpikeVax) and two EUA authorizations (Pfizer BioNTech vax and Moderna covid-19 vax).
To date no vaccines are FDA ‘approved’ for anyone under age 16; however Moderna and Pfizer both have FDA EUA ‘authorizations’ for non-approved use by children, depending on age.
Nice to read Washington might lift covid restrictions in March. POTUS Biden hopefully will declare the pandemic over in his coming State of the Union Address. Governor of Iowa, et al, lifted all covid restrictions a few days ago. Politicians want covid restrictions gone before primary elections for obvious reasons.
