Mary Cothren

Mary Bernice Cothren, lovingly known as Babe, 77, a lifelong Cathlamet resident, died December 8, 2021 at her home in Cathlamet. Mary was born in Cathlamet on October 3, 1944 to Sigvard and Ruth (Olson) Vog.

She graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1962. After her first marriage, she divorced and married Kenith Cothren on December 20, 1983; he preceded her in 2006.

She was a well known and loved waitress at several restaurants in the local community ending her career at the Duck Inn in 1994. From 1986 to 1989 Mary and Kenny lived in Yakitat, Alaska where he was logging. Mary loved to cook and bake and shared that love with her kids. She enjoyed her yard and flowers, fishing, clam digging and her family. She also loved trips to Reno with friends and family.

She is survived by sons, Ronald “Chink” W. Cothren, Ronnie D. Cothren, daughter, Debbie Olmstead, nine grandchildren Tyler, Carson, Tony, Christopher, Aspen, Lindsey, Brett, Jamey and Casey and nine great grandchildren, Dylann, Laine, Eila, Daisy, Logan, Hunter, James, Olivia and Eloise and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary was preceded by Kenny, a son, Daniel Newcomer, a daughter, Susie Cothren and two brothers Don and Ron Vog.

A Graveside Service will be held December 23 at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet. Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
