The Wahkiakum Mule football season came to an end Saturday as the Mules fell to the Forks Spartans 40-14.
The game was close for three quarters, but the Spartans' hurry-up offense wore down the Mules as the game progressed.
"The young guys pulled through and worked hard all year," said Mule Coach Ryan Lorenzo. "The kids left everything on the field at Forks, and I couldn't ask for anything more.
"It's tough being a small team with 21 players, including two foreign exchange students, and trying to defend a hurry-up offense. Our kids were just gassed. Nobody would come off the field when the ball changed directions.
"The lead at the end of the game got blown open because the coaches were taking chances to keep the ball out of Fork's hands because we couldn't handle the tempo offense.
"I am very proud of my seniors. The late arrivals were nice and it was great to see them come out and play. We are planning to work hard this off season, to get our numbers up, and keep getting better."
Game statistics were unavailble.
Playing their last game for the Mules were seniors Elijah Cothren, Gabe Moon, Cayden Mendez and Colten Vik.
