Lady Mules score win, loss in volleyball action

The Wahkiakum Mules volleyball team split games this week, with a win at home and a loss on the road. Their overall record is now 4-7.

On Thursday, they hosted Stevenson and won in four sets, 25-16, 22-25, 25-21, and 25-15.

Megan Leitz had 10 kills, six digs, three blocks, and was 100 percent from the serving line. Kamryn Watkins had eight kills, and Bailey McKinley added three more. Libero Reigha Niemeyer had 19 digs.

“Miya Kerstetter and Lily Hale played scrappy defense in the back row,” Coach Kayli Hurley said.

On Tuesday in Adna, the Lady Mules lost in three sets, 25-23, 25-14, and 25-10.

“It was a tough mental night for us,” Coach Hurley said. “We made a lot of unforced errors. When you put a lot of free balls over the net and are constantly on the defensive, it’s tough. Adna has some strong weapons offensively and does a good job keeping the ball off of the ground. We didn't play our best ball, but they definitely outplayed us offensively.”

Leitz had eight kills. Niemeyer had 15 digs. She also had stellar serve receive, according to Hurley.

The Lady Mules host Rainier tonight (Thursday) and Kalama next Tuesday.
